<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The match against Blackburn was decribed like this by Man Utd long-serving manager Sir Alex, after his side produced some impressive football at Ewood Park and ran victors by 2-0. The line-up by the Scot against former Red Devil Paul Ince&#8217;s side was (ratings for the game):</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>GK: Edwin van der Sar = 6</strong></li>
<li><strong>DR: Wesley Brown = 7</strong></li>
<li><strong>DL: Patrice Evra = 7</strong></li>
<li><strong>DC: Rio Ferdinand = 7.5</strong></li>
<li><strong>DC: Nemanja Vidic = 7.5</strong></li>
<li><strong>MR: <a href="http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/cronaldoshirts.html" class="kblinker" title="Cristiano Ronaldo Shirts">Cristiano Ronaldo</a> = 7.5</strong></li>
<li><strong>ML: Ryan Giggs = 7</strong></li>
<li><strong>MC: Darren Fletcher = 7</strong></li>
<li><strong>MC: Anderson = 7</strong></li>
<li><strong>ST: Dimitar Berbatov = 7</strong></li>
<li><strong>ST: Wayne Rooney = 8.5</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>Out of the 3 substitutes that were included in the match, Tevez, Park and O&#8217;Shea, only the former (Tevez) managed to impress, after he hit the post and could have easily made it 3-0. Ferguson&#8217;s delight could be seen from the comments that he gave to Setanta Sports when the game finished:</p>
<p><em>“I think that’s our best performance of the season in terms of possession and confidence of the team.”</em></p>
<p><em>“It’s always been a difficult ground for us over the years and they’ve always made it a battle against us and we’ve lost a couple of times here in the last four or five years.”</em></p>
<p>He was full of praise for man of the match Wayne Rooney after another top-class performance from the bright Englishman. He also anticipated an interesting season for the Barclays Premier League:</p>
<p><em>“He’s a very mobile player, Wayne. He sees space well, he’s very active, he’s got a lot of energy, he uses his energy in the right way I think now. It was his best performance of the season it has to be said.”</em></p>
<p><em>“It’s going to be an interesting season. What we’ve got to do is make sure we have a consistency and try and take something from every game.”</em></p>
<p><a href="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/pic1.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-227" src="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/pic1-300x231.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="231" /></a></p>
<p>Goals for Man Utd were scored by Wes Brown and Wayne Rooney, as the Red Devils registered their first consecutive win in the current Premier League season. The win indicates that Man Utd are on the rise in the table, after they went up to the 6th place after Saturday evening&#8217;s match. It is also a well-known fact that Man Utd have a game in hand, after the scheduled match against Fulham was postponed.</p>
<p><a href="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/paul_ince_647384.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-228" src="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/paul_ince_647384-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Paul Ince criticised the referee for allowing the Wes Brown goal to stand, after he claims that his goalkeeper Jason Brown was felled by Vidic in the build-up of the goal. However, he praised the Red Devils for their &#8216;awesome&#8217; performance:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t say it cost us the game but it was 0-0. If the referee can&#8217;t see it then he shouldn&#8217;t be a referee. If not then the linesman should see it - it was a diabolical decision.”</em></p>
<p><em>“They [United] were absolutely awesome, they are a fantastic side and champions of Europe but decisions change games.”</em></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Friday evening it was announced that two midfield players of Manchester United tied themselves to longer contracts as a sign of loyalty to the European &amp; domestic Champions. Scholes, one of the best products of Man Utd, has signalled his intention to end his career at the club by extending his contract by another year. Paul&#8217;s previous contract was expiring at the end of this season. Although currently injured, Paul has long been a faithful servant who played his heart out for the team and always turned up great performances in the centre of midfield. Due to the length of the contract tabled, we are given sufficient evidence to assume that Scholes intends to end his career in June 2010, at the end of the 2009/10 season. Surely top of his list of priorities is the intention to repeat the 1999 treble for the club in these two years.</p>
<p>The other player who showed that he is at the club to stay is Darren Fletcher. The Scot has risen in his status at the club and finds himself occupying a big role in his manager&#8217;s plans. He forms part of the rotation in the midfield department which comprises of an undoubted array of talent. He was the first competitive goalscorer for Man Utd this season and has scored 9 times ever since he joined the senior squad from the youth academy in 2001. Two of these goals came in the present season, where he has only made 3 appearances for the club. Thus he equalled last season&#8217;s goal tally in 23 games (2 goals), in just 3 2008/09 games. This signals that the player is getting better under the tutelage of fellow countryman Sir Alex and can do a fantastic job when called upon.</p>
<p>These were Sir Alex&#8217;s comments:</p>
<p><em>“Paul is proof that if you look after yourself you can carry on playing and be rewarded at a club of this size. He is (almost) 34 now and he has been here since he was 14. That tells you the desire and the ability he has to stay at the top.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;Darren is in the same vein as Paul, Ryan Giggs and Wes Brown in that he is a long-serving member of the team. His consistency and level-headed approach is a great attribute and we are all delighted he has signed a new contract.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>The same happy feeling was echoed by the two players in their comments:</p>
<p><a href="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/paul_scholes_manchester_united_champions_leag_831235.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-223" src="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/paul_scholes_manchester_united_champions_leag_831235.jpg" alt="" width="218" height="298" /></a></p>
<p><em>&#8220;It is great to sign a new deal. Last season was fantastic but you always want to achieve more and with this team we are capable of doing just that.&#8221;</em> - Paul Scholes (<strong>contract until 2010</strong>)</p>
<p><a href="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/fletcher_550619.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-224" src="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/fletcher_550619-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p><em>&#8220;When you play at such a great club with a great team you always want to be a part of that. The spirit here is amazing and I am happy that I can play my part in achieving more success.&#8221;</em> - Darren Fletcher (<strong>contract until 2012</strong>)</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The score of 3-0 was well-deserved by the defending Champions of Europe as they earned another 3 points to take their total to 4 out of a maximum of 6 in two games. Although it is still too early, we already know that we will be seeing Man Utd in February. The Red Devils require 6 more points from 4 matches left (max: 12 points). They beat Aalborg in Denmark, and the Danish side showed that it won&#8217;t be able to cause an upset at Old Trafford. That&#8217;s another guaranteed 3 pointer. Losing all of the matches against Celtic (twice) and Villarreal is, let&#8217;s say, impossible.</p>
<p>It wasn&#8217;t the result that hurt Man Utd in Denmark. It was the injuries they suffered to two of their key players in the squad: Scholes and Rooney. With age catching up on the loyal midfielder, an injury that puts him out until 2009 is not his first preference at this stage of his career, and may have serious long-term damage. Reports state that he ruptured his medial ligaments putting him out until January. There is doubt about the fitness of Carrick and Hargreaves which makes the situation worse.</p>
<p>Rooney limped off the Aalborg match with an ankle problem, to be replaced by Tevez. Although the return date is estimated to be this month&#8217;s World Cup qualifiers for England, it may set Rooney back a little, after he recently re-discovered his goalscoring talent. He may miss this weekend&#8217;s match against Blackburn but Berba and Carlitos Tevez should be able to do the job, as United aim to keep up with the leaders Chelsea and Liverpool.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Apologies for failing to maintain this blog on a consistent basis over the past weeks. Since then, Man Utd have finally captured Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov from the Spurs. It may prove to be the last piece of the jigsaw of Sir Alex&#8217;s star-studded squad. With his first four matches gone, Berbatov failed to impress the Man Utd faithful by missing numerous chances and failing to net a goal. Despite this, he layed a major role by assisting Tevez in the goal scored at Anfield.</p>
<p><a href="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/berbatov-rooney_1001604a.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-218" src="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/10/berbatov-rooney_1001604a-300x187.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="187" /></a></p>
<p>Fans were doubting the yield of the £30.75 million investment in the goal-machine which needed to be oiled after being frozen on the Tottenham bench. Understandable is the fact that the lack of pre-season at Man Utd for Dimitar did not help him to settle perfectly. Tuesday&#8217;s match against Danish underdog opponents Aalborg was Berbatov&#8217;s fifth in the Red shirt as he paired Rooney in the Man Utd strikeforce. During the course of the game, especially in the early parts, Berbatov missed a couple of chances, some of which had a higher probability of going in rather than being missed. It looked like it was going to be another goalless 90 minutes for the Bulgarian.</p>
<p>Ten minutes after half-time, the Bulgarian opened his goal-scoring account with Man Utd. His goal came after an unforgettable mistake by Augustinussen, which Berbatov duly converted on the half-volley. With the Man Utd fans cheering for the new star, it was 24 minutes later that he earned himself the second goal. Much more work was involved in this converted chance, which is undoubtedly more beautiful than the first goal. <a href="http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/cronaldoshirts.html" class="kblinker" title="Ronaldo Shirts">Ronaldo</a> supplied the cross and Dimitar scissor-kicked the ball on the half-volley: a shot which Aalborg goalkeeper Zaza couldn&#8217;t save. Thus it is two goals under Berbatov&#8217;s name, probably with much more to come in the future.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After falling out of favour with most supporters, including myself, as he spent more time in the stands than on the field, Frenchman Louis Saha has signed for Everton. The move is subject to a medical and the fee is undisclosed. Ferguson had previously stated that the striker would be staying at the Red Devils to recover and boost the striking department, but this will not be so.</p>
<p><a href="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/08/574px-louis_saha.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-215" src="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/08/574px-louis_saha-287x300.jpg" alt="" width="287" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>But it seems the loyal coach has given up of Saha ever returning to full fitness. The striker has scored 42 goals in the 124 appearance that he made in the 4 seasons that he spent at the club. He will be making his move to Everton where he will continue his recovery and play for a lower-reputation club where he may get some goals. Man Utd will not miss the striker much, as he rarely played a part in their drive for success.</p>
<p>But this move makes it inevitable for Ferguson to make a move for a striker before September 1st. The only established strikers for Man Utd are Tevez and Rooney, and an injury to one of them would be devastating as it is yet unknown if Campbell can live up the standards of the Premier League.</p>
<p>It seems that after a move for Berbatov is turning into a roller-coaster, with Ferguson expressing different feelings about the move every single day, the boss may start looking at other options as time is running out. However, all fans believe in the Scot, as he has wowed them before with the signing of Anderson from Porto, when he was never linked in the papers with Man Utd. We at Blogfc believe that Fergie is already in secret talks for a backup option should the Berbatov deal fail to materialise.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The transfer saga regarding Tottenham&#8217;s want-away striker Dimitar Berbatov took another twist today after what can be branded a disrespectful act by the striker towards his current employer. Berba has already stated it&#8217;s his dream to move to Man Utd and play Champions League football again. It was also reported that the striker handed a formal transfer request last Saturday, just before the Premier League kicked off. This made Juande Ramos put him on the substitute bench. Unlike Man Utd&#8217;s <a href="http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/cronaldoshirts.html" class="kblinker" title="Cristiano Ronaldo Shirts">Cristiano Ronaldo</a>, who found himself in a similar situation in a tug-of-war between United and Real Madrid, Berbatov is more determined to make his dream move a reality.</p>
<p>Man Utd managed to convince Ronaldo to stay at the club, but it remains to be seen if Tottenham will be successful in trying to hold onto Berba. Juande Ramos stated that the Bulgarian hitman is in his plans, and that he is not for sale. However, Berbatov is more determined than ever to make the move to Manchester happen. The relationship between Tottenham and Man Utd continues to crumble, and it is yet unknown if the two parties will reach an agreement before the 1st September.</p>
<p><a href="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/08/berbatovshirt.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-212" src="http://manutd.blogsfc.com/files/2008/08/berbatovshirt.jpg" alt="" width="350" height="475" /></a></p>
<p>While on international duty in his home country Bulgaria, Berbatov was stopped by a Manchester United fan who asked him to sign the shirt for him. Without any hesitation, Berbatov took the shirt and signed his name and the number 9 next to the club badge. The Sun has the exclusive photo and ran the story first, with comments from onlookers and ex-Tottenham players. The general consensus by the Tottenham fans is that the club should sell Berbatov, but most of the Man Utd fans believe that he is not the best option out there. Many Red Devil fans would have preferred having Huntelaar in the team. However, fans will always support Ferguson&#8217;s decisions, and his persistency to get this player signals that he must be the man to improve the club&#8217;s goal tally. Berbatov has been criticised for sulking, thinking he is bigger than the club, and acting unprofessionally when things are not going his way. His numerous goals at Old Trafford, will surely make the fans forget all this, and chant his name as Man Utd attempt to repeat the 1999 Treble.</p>

<p>It is not a very common thing to have players transferring between the top clubs in English football. However, it has happened before, and thus it is only a minor shock to have a player joining his previous club&#8217;s biggest rival. This is what Mikael Silvestre, the 31-year old Man Utd defender has just done. It was officially announced that the player has joined the Arsenal party to strengthen the defensive department of the club. Although undisclosed, the fee is thought to be around £750,000. The move goes against Wenger&#8217;s policy of giving one-year contracts to over-30 players, as Mikael has signed a two-year deal.</p>
<p>After spending 9 years at Old Trafford, but rarely getting a straight run of first-team action, Silvestre acknowledged the effect that the club has had on his career, and thanked the United faithful for their support. The defender and full-back appeared 249 times in the famous Man Utd shirt, netting 6 goals in 9 years. Previously he played for Rennes and Inter Milan, before joining Man Utd in 1999 for £3.5 million. He will now join fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger and wear the number 18 shirt for Arsenal. The last player to make the move from Man Utd to Arsenal was Brian Kidd in 1974.</p>
<p>Silvestre was praised by his teammates, Man Utd manager and Arsenal manager, as a great player with good knowledge of the game:</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m very surprised, I have been with Mikael basically all the time I&#8217;ve been in the first team squad. He is a great professional and it is sad to see him go. But he has not been playing many games at the moment and he wants to play, so all the best to him. If he wants to go I&#8217;m sure it will be good for him, as long as he is happy with it and plays games. It is rare to move from Manchester United to Arsenal, but if you are going to go anywhere why not go to a good team and I&#8217;m sure that&#8217;s what Mikael will be thinking.&#8221; - <em><strong>Wesley Brown (Man Utd defender)</strong></em></p>
<p>&#8220;Mikael was a great servant and a wonderful professional. We wish him all the best at his new club and thank him for his service.&#8221; - <em><strong>Sir Alex Ferguson (Man Utd manager)</strong></em></p>
<p>&#8220;Mikael&#8217;s versatility, experience and calibre will provide the extra depth we need to reinforce our challenge for honours this season. His defensive adaptability will serve us well and it&#8217;s a big plus that Mikael has top-level experience and a great understanding of football in the Premier League.&#8221; - <em><strong>Arsene Wenger (Arsenal Manager)</strong></em></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Reports are suggesting that Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing a large bid for Valencia winger David Silva. The Spanish 22 year old is one of the brightest prospects in the Valencia and Spain squads, and is on a 7-year contract at Valencia, signed on the 21st June 2007. He can play on both sides of midfield as well as a playmaker. Ferguson sees him as the ideal addition and future replacement for <a href="http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/cronaldoshirts.html" class="kblinker" title="Cristiano Ronaldo Shirts">Cristiano Ronaldo</a>, and is determined to make his move now.</p>
<p><img src="http://bifsniff.com/wp-content/files/2007/06/david-silva.jpg" height="400" width="299" /></p>
<p>Valencia is cash-strapped and would negotiate with clubs in order to cover its expenses. The fee being mentioned by the press is in the region of £18 million, which is a bargain for the talented winger. Silva provides an exciting addition to the 2008/09 midfield department, and with Man Utd having cash to spend and a manager-backing board, it seems that this deal could materialise even before the Premier League kicks off. Apart from this transfer, Man Utd would also be in contention for a striker. The chance to sign a sensational Spanish target does not come knocking often, and Fergie will not miss this opportunity to sign Silva, if reports are to be believed.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sir Alex Ferguson has given the biggest ever hint that he is ready to make a move for a striker and finalise a deal before the Premier League opener against Newcastle next Sunday. In a buoyant mood after the club won the Community Shield against Portsmouth on penalties, Fergie answered the reporters&#8217; questions about general and individual targets for the Red Devils, which would enhance the goalscoring power of the club.  Something which the press have inflated is the refusal of Ferguson to deny a move for former-Arsenal captain Thierry Henry.</p>
<p><img src="http://soccerlens.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/henry-barcelona.jpg" height="323" width="340" /></p>
<p>The ageing Barcelona striker is on the downturn of his career which reached its peak at the Gunners. Repeatedly he has stated that he is still an Arsenal fan and if he ever return to the Premiership, it will be with Arsenal. The Barca striker is will soon be 31 years old, and goes against the current trend of buying players for the future (Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Nani, Anderson). This can be seen as a strategical statement by Fergie to get the true target that he has in mind: probably Dimitar Berbatov.</p>
<p><img src="http://images.google.com.mt/url?q=http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/ng/sp/empics/3815778&amp;usg=AFQjCNE-RtkseuXWBbPq1Z4QOaIMS4FYSA" /></p>
<p>A move for the Tottenham striker was made more difficult when the relationship between both clubs slumped, after the Tottenham chairman launched a scathing attack on the Man Utd boss, branding him a hypocrite for his comments regarding <a href="http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/cronaldoshirts.html" class="kblinker" title="Ronaldo Shirts">Ronaldo</a>. The breakdown can be tracked back to the transfer of Michael Carrick, with Tottenham believing that they could have got more for the midfielder. Tottenham have slapped a £30 million price tag on the striker for Manchester United, while saying that the player can go for £25 million to any other club (Milan and Barcelona). It is unlikely that the two clubs would come to an agreement before the mentioned deadline by Ferguson, unless the player goes on strike and refuses to play in the opening match for Tottenham.</p>
<p><img src="http://klaasjanhuntelaar.soccerstar.org/images/klaas%20jan%20huntelaar_01.jpg" height="251" width="470" /></p>
<p>A much more attractive target, and one which has the backing of nearly all Man Utd fans is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, nicknamed the Hunter. The Ajax striker exhibited his goalscoring prowess last season when he scored 36 goals in 39 games, an average of 0.92 goals per match. Ajax are practically using the Dutch lad to gain qualification for the Champions League. This was confirmed by statement made by the Ajax administration, who said that if Huntelaar helps them qualify for the Champions League in the coming two seasons (2008/09 and 2009/10), it would bring a total of 20 million euros in revenue to the club, and then the player can move for a free transfer when his contract expires in 2010. If Man Utd can give Ajax a more secure option: getting 20 million immediately; it may tempt them to sell. Huntelaar stated that he would be delighted to follow in <a href="http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/vannistshirts.html" class="kblinker" title="Van Nistelrooy Shirts">van Nistelrooy</a>&#8217;s footsteps and be a success at Old Trafford. He would be the ideal partner for Tevez and Rooney in attack, and surely return a 30+ goal tally.</p>
<p><img src="http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/08_03/FergusonG2608_468x632.jpg" height="449" width="333" /></p>
<p>Although my personal preference is that Ferguson moves for Huntelaar, I would back the old man&#8217;s judgment on who is the best for Man Utd. He brought players before that were a huge success, and he will surely do it again. This is why he keeps all Man Utd fans believing in this great club, and he will make us proud again by retaining the Premier League 2008/09 trophy. We started the same as last season, by winning the Community Shield. If we keep our performances on a high, we CAN do it again!</p>

<p>After a pleasing pre-season, players have now gone back to business, with the new Premiership season fast approaching. The first competitive match for the amazing club from Manchester was played today, Sunday 10th August, exactly one week before the Premier League opener against Newcastle. Their opponents were last season&#8217;s FA Cup winners, Portsmouth, which beat Man Utd on their way to clinching the 2007/08 FA Cup trophy.</p>
<p><img src="http://www.manunitedpies.tv/0701roon.jpg" height="327" width="400" /></p>
<p>Many were predicting a difficult match for the Red Devils, with the absence of Rooney, <a href="http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/cronaldoshirts.html" class="kblinker" title="Ronaldo Shirts">Ronaldo</a> and Anderson being the main reason behind this. Also, the need for a striker to partner the existing strikeforce lacked firepower for Man Utd up front. Gary Neville started the match with the captain&#8217;s armband, with this match being his first start in 17 months after he was hit by an injury that put him out of most of last season&#8217;s games. Van der Sar kept the number 1 jersey and looks set to do so for most of the coming campaign. The other players were Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, O&#8217;Shea, Scholes, Giggs, Nani and Tevez.</p>
<p><img src="http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/9550/pompey1vw3.png" /></p>
<p>Brown (for Neville 66&#8242;), Carrick (for O&#8217;Shea 66&#8242;) and Campbell (for Nani 78&#8242;) came on from the substitute bench. However, none of them could get the much-awaited first goal of the season at the Wembley. The match went goalless for the 93 minutes played, and a shootout was required to decide the winner. Portsmouth went first, but Diarra wasted his chance by shooting over the bar. This gave Man Utd the advantage, as they went on to score all their penalties. Van der Sar saved Mvuemba&#8217;s shot, and Glen Johnson shot the fourth penalty wide, to give Man Utd a clear victory in the shootout. It was the second competitive shootout victory in a row, after the Red Devils defeated Chelsea in Moscow last May.</p>
<p><code><a href="<span style='display:block;text-align:center;'><object width='450' height='365'><param name='movie' value='http://www.youtube.com/v/ZhdR0WKkgmQ">&amp;border=0&amp;rel=0&amp;egm=0&amp;color1=0x666666&amp;color2=0xefefef' /><param name='mode' value='transparent' /><embed src='http://www.youtube.com/v/ZhdR0WKkgmQ">&amp;border=0&amp;rel=0&amp;egm=0&amp;color1=0x666666&amp;color2=0xefefef' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='transparent' width='450' height='365' /></object></span>
<p>Ferguson has promised to bring in a new striker by next Sunday to cover the club&#8217;s striker worries. Although Rooney is expected to return for the Premiership start, one cannot expect him to be on top of his form. Saha continues to recover more than play football, but Ferguson wants to keep him. Campbell may become a good striker for the club if given the chance, but expecting too much from the young lad would ruin his career. Tevez is apparently the only real striker for Man Utd for the Newcastle encounter and the following early matches of the league.</p>
